it was the darkest drought in history.

we knew we'd really messed up
when we started seeing clouds across the sky
for days and weeks on end,

but the most curious thing
is that it never rained.

they were like the steel cladding of a diving bell,
fit for this ever-sinking vessel we call earth.

and we were along for the ride.
